Originally constructed in 1983 and 1984, there are 4 buildings in the Silver Queen West community. In 2013 and 2014, the Silver Queen West Condo Association completed an extensive restoration project across the entirety of the complex at a cost of just under $2.4 million. The improvements to all building exteriors in the Silver Queen West complex included upgrades to stucco siding, railings, balconies and walkways. Individual condos received upgrades as well, including windows, private decks and entry doors. The restoration project went very well. Since having been completed, out-of-town visitors sometimes look at the Silver Queen West complex and think it's a newly constructed complex. Because of the restoration work and the complex's location so close to the national forest, the Silver Queen West complex presents a great opportunity for primary residents or second homeowners as well as tremendous long-term and short-term rental potential.

The Silver Queen West subdivision is part of the Wildernest neighborhood, which in turn is located in unincorporated Summit County.  Accordingly, the Summit County Board of County Commissioners sets the short-term rental rules that govern the Silver Queen West subdivision as well as all other neighborhoods located in Wildernest.  As far as the Silver Queen West subdivision is concerned, Summit County defines a "short-term rental" as any residential dwelling unit or room therein that is rented for periods of less than 30 consecutive days.  Silver Queen West rentals, which are longer than 30 consecutive days in length, are instead considered to be a "long-term rental".  And, long-term rentals in Silver Queen West are encouraged by Summit County government, because they help provide housing to local employees.  Summit County is not currently contemplating new restrictions for Silver Queen West long-term rentals.  Accordingly, when owners in Silver Queen West seek to long-term rent their properties (or any part thereof) for more than thirty consecutive days, they need not be concerned with new STR rules or obtaining a STR license.
