Summit County CO General Information
Founded in 1861 as one of the original seventeen counties in Colorado, Summit County is now home to about 30,299 full-time residents (as of 2015). Most folks live in the small mountain communities of Blue River, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Dillon, Frisco, Heeney, Keystone, Montezuma, Silverthorne, and Wildernest. The entire county has an approximate area of 619 square miles. Of that total, about 80% is comprised of national forest.
